1. Am I eligible to vote?

You are eligible to register to vote in New Jersey if the following is true. You are a United States citizen; and you are at least 17 years old (however, you may not vote until reaching the age of 18); and you are a resident of New Jersey and Ocean County at least 30 days before the election; and you are not currently serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction. If you meet the above requirements, you may register to vote by mail or in-person. The registration deadline to vote at the next election is 21 days prior to election day.

2. What makes me not eligible to vote?

You are not eligible to register to vote if:
- You are serving a sentence, on parole or probation as a result of a conviction for an indictable offense under state or federal law or have been adjudged mentally incompetent.
- If you were registered to vote before you were convicted, you must complete a new voter registration form once you have served your time.
- If you are a pre-trial detainee or on bail pending appeal, you do not lose your right to vote.

To find out if you are registered, search the New Jersey Division of Elections database.

4. How and where do I register to vote?

All Voter Registration applications must be returned to the Ocean County Board of Elections or to the Borough Clerk’s Office, at least 21 days prior to the next election in order to be eligible to vote in that election.
